by a walk-behind steering handle or column, equipped with insulated hand grips. The sanding drum shall be capable of being raised or lowered to any desired sanding position by a hand control lever mounted on the steering handle. Both the on/off power switch and the hand control lever shall be mounted on the steering column adjacent to the hand grips for operator convenience. The drum height lever shall be labeled as to function (i.e. drum height) and the end points of the lever travel shall be labeled as to functional result of the control movement (i.e. UP, DOWN). Means shall be provided to adjust the sanding drum downpressure to obtain a desired finish on any type wood floors. The floor sander shall be capable of limited disassembly to reduce the unit size and weight for portability.
Performance: The floor sander shall perform continuous floor sanding operations from rough-in through finish sanding on all types of wood floors without overload or overheating while using the full grit range of abrasive paper.
Electric motor: The electric motor shall be a continuous duty, AC, 115/230 volt, 50/60 Hz, heavy duty, electric motor with overload protection.
Dust collecting system: The dust collecting system shall be capable of efficient removal of sanding dust and other residue from sanding operations and depositing such residue in a detachable collection bag for disposal.
Sanding drum: The sanding drum assembly shall be reinforced to prevent distortion, machined, and dynamically balanced to avoid chatter and uneven finished surfaces. The drum shall be gear or V-belt driven and equipped with prelubricated, sealed type, ball or roller type bearings.
Wheels: The floor sander shall be mounted on fixed position or swivel type steel or nonmarking type composition wheels with antifriction bearings. The wheels shall be sufficient in number and located to provide maximum stability and maneuverability for the sander to efficiently perform all intended floor sanding operations.
Safety: All belts, shafts, pulleys, and other rotating parts shall be guarded to prevent accidental contact by operating personnel. The floor sander shall comply with all National Electrical Manufacturing Association (NEMA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations as applicable for this type equipment.
Noise limits. The noise levels produced by the sander shall riot exceed 85 dB(A) when measured with an ASA 47, type I meter and when measured with the equipment operating at maximum load. With the sander resting on a level surface, the microphone shall be located 2 feet behind the handle at its shortest position and 5 feet off the surface. If and only if the 85 dB(A) limit
is documented as being clearly beyond the state-of-the-art, selection of another noise limit shall be made by the contracting officer on the basis of system requirements. Said
